About me

"Take pride in how far you've come...
Have faith in how far you can go"

The Equestrian is a look into the life of an avid rider, coach and overall horse enthusiast. Some might say I have a love for animals, but my life with horses and fellow equestrians is so much more than that. It’s a passion, a lifestyle, an escape from any reality and a taste of freedom.

I have been riding for fifteen years and coaching for the past five. This may not seem like a long time, but I have had some of the most amazing opportunities training with equestrian professionals, working for international sport horse breeders and competing in the Hunters. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, “Hunters”, this is the style of riding, (primarily in North America), that I specialize in, compete in and have come to know and love.

Believe it or not, when I started taking riding lessons at the age of 10, I was forced into it. My younger sister rode and to my parents naturally, I would love it too. I used to cry, make excuses, and fall fatally ill on my way to the barn, all to avoid having to get on that horse. In those days, I never would’ve imagined I’d one day be competing, coaching and have a Bachelors degree from the University of Guelph in Equine management.

Coaching has become a passion of mine. To be able to share the knowledge I have and watch the progress of kids, teens and adults in this incredible sport and develop their love for horses, is in one word – inspiring.  I think teachers will be able to relate to me when I say, there is just something about seeing others ‘get it’ and learn that puts a smile in my heart.

This blog is not meant just for those who are familiar with the world of horses and the equestrians of the world, but for those who have never understood what it is about horses that gets people like me ‘hooked’ for life and to show how riding a horse and being involved in the world of the Hunters is so much more than just saddling up.

  2. I know a girl who took the Equine program at UofG and loved the program. It's amazing when you can educate yourself and do something you love.
I can also relate to hating something growing up and appreciating it now I used to take Piano and HATED it, now I wish I kept it up because it's such a beautiful instrument.
